Scouts Canada

OCA is excited about the opportunity to partner with Scouts Canada and act as their conservation agent for an exciting multi-year initiative that could include the potential conservation of thousands of acres of natural lands in Ontario, while ensuring ongoing use by Scouts youth and volunteers. Scouts Canada is one of the country’s leading co-ed youth organizations with a mission to develop well-rounded youth, better prepared for success in the world. With programming rooted in adventure, leadership, and community, Scouts Canada provides transformative learning experiences for youth through outdoor experiential education, and service.

Scouts Canada has designated OCA as their conservation agent in an exciting multi-year initiative that could include the potential conservation of thousands of acres of natural lands in Ontario, while ensuring ongoing use by Scouts youth and volunteers.

Our team is excited about this opportunity to work with Scouts and the conservation sector in Ontario to determine a path forward for the potential to conserve a large portion of their holdings, while ensuring ongoing access by Scouts youth to key properties across the province. OCA has been rapidly analyzing and prioritizing each opportunity, reaching out to conservation and First Nation partners in the vicinity of these properties, and working with Scouts to explore a variety of conservation mechanisms (e.g. sale, severance, long term lease, etc.) that will ensure ongoing access to the lands. We are thrilled at the amount of interest from local conservation groups in seeing these natural gems protected permanently. OCA will provide oversight, coordination and support to the overall effort and the team at Scouts Canada, and support regional conservation organizations in raising funds from local communities, as well as helping to bring funding to the larger effort. In total, the Scouts opportunities in Ontario could represent tens of millions of dollars of land value. For this opportunity to move forward the conservation sector would need significant new funding to help make these acquisitions a reality.

We invite you to support this strategic multi-year, conservation opportunity!  Please reach out to either Jill or Kristyn to discuss the projects that are moving forward and how you could help.
