OUR WORK

COMPLETED PROJECTS

Accelerating conservation means working with fantastic partners, protecting land directly ourselves and always looking for new projects—from urban parks to expanded parks or puzzle pieces in a larger vision. Below are just a few of the amazing projects OCA has helped cross the finish line.

Land’escapes

October 23, 2024
Located just south of Bancroft, Ontario, the Land’escapes property spans an extraordinary 26,300 acres. The land, home to 20 untouched lakes, over 5,000 acres of wetlands, and 13 species at risk, has been formally recognized in the Canadian Protected and Conserved Areas Database—making it the largest individually-owned protected area in both Ontario and Canada. Owner Ben Samann is dedicated to ensuring this site will be managed for conservation for the long term through partnerships and strategic conservation-focused management plans. The property safeguards portions of two vital wildlife corridors and will serve as an anchor for future conservation throughout this region.

Biddy Creek Wetland

April 2025
Led by the Northumberland Land Trust (NLT), supported by OCA, the Biddy Creek Wetland is a vibrant 123-hectare natural haven in Brighton, Ontario, teeming with rich biodiversity and important habitats. NLT and Ducks Unlimited protected this ecologically significant area in partnership. It features lush wetlands, mixedwood forests, and supports several species at risk. Home to various watercourses that flow into the Cold Creek watershed, this property plays a key role in maintaining healthy ecosystems and connecting important natural areas across the region.

Elzevir Marsh

April 2025
OCA is thrilled to announce our second project, Elzevir Marsh! Nestled within a network of conservation lands, this amazing property plays a crucial role in protecting a key ecological corridor. It’s a haven for Elk and several other species at risk, and it boasts vital headwaters that provide clean drinking water for hundreds of thousands of residents. We’re excited to team up with Quinte Conservation, who will be the incredible stewards of this property, adding it to their extensive network of protected lands in the area.

Deerock Lake

February 2025
OCA’s first acquisition! Deerock Lake is now part of our conservation efforts, expanding the protected natural footprint of the 2,246 ha Elzevir Peatlands Conservation Reserve. This 50-hectare property is a rare wetland system recognized for its scientific value. It’s home to species at risk like Blanding’s Turtle, Five-lined Skink, and the critically imperiled Southern Twayblade orchid. It also provides crucial winter habitat for the area’s reintroduced elk herd. OCA is proud to work with partners to ensure its long-term protection.
